Bay State Street Railway 4285
A fellow railfan gave me a print of the above photo from Boston Elevated Railway's archives. It shows Bay State Street Railway car 4285 leaving Mattapan Square on a trip to Brockton via Milton, Randolph, and Avon around 1918. In Milton the route followed Blue Hill Parkway, Brook Road, Reedsdale Road, and Randolph Avenue. The route was abandoned in July 1930 by Bay State successor Eastern Massachusetts Street Railway. Plates 17, 16, 4, 13, and 15 of this map trace the route through Milton. Sadly, there is very little published information about the handful of trolley lines that once crossed Milton, with the exception of the Mattapan-Ashmont High Speed Line (which still exists).
