Cape Rail Inc provides all rail service on Cape Cod.  It has two separate railroads: Cape Cod Central, which runs seasonal tourist trains, and Mass Coastal, which operates freight trains.  Both railroads use the same tracks, which are former New York, New Haven & Hartford lines now owned by the state of Massachusetts.  CCC was formed in 1999 as the latest in a series of companies running excursion trains on the surviving Cape Cod rail lines.  MC was formed in 2007 to take over freight operations on the Cape from Bay Colony RR, whose contract with the state ended December 31, 2007.
