Originally named Scollay Square, Gov't Center is one of the major stations on the Green Line (and the Blue Line as well). There are two loops at the station. One, which is in regular service, is used for trains coming from Park Street and terminating at Gov't Center, and was 1963 when the whole Scollay Square area was rebuilt and renamed Government Center. The other is the Brattle Loop, which is part of the original subway. This loop is what little remains of the northern set of inner tracks, and connects with the outer tracks just south of Haymarket. It's mostly used to store equipment during off-peak times; only rarely does it get used by revenue trains.
