  • Caption: The aptly named Halfway House sits at 4500 ft (1371 m). According to one of the brakemen, at one time trains going up and down the mountain would meet here, exchange passengers, and head back to their starting points, and there was a coal dock and water tank. Nowadays, of course, the trains head by nonstop. A sign on the building proclaims that it is exactly level. (May 31, 2010)
