Caption: Hell Gate Bridge (the one with the red arch) was built in 1916. It carries Amtrak's Northeast Corridor across the East River. It later became the inspiration for the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Interestingly, it is estimated that it would be the last bridge in NYC to collapse if humans disappeared, taking a 1000 years to do so. The suspensions bridge in front of it is the Triboro Bridge, built in 1936. (September 14, 2010)
